Document released in Trump’s final days reveals ‘crucial’ COVID information

Now that Donald Trump is out of office, the theory which suggests COVID-19 leaked from a Wuhan lab is a line of inquiry “being taken more seriously”, according to Sky News host Sharri Markson.

“This weekend was the first ever summit of the Quadrilateral Dialogue, with Australia, America, Japan and India - its underlying purpose is forming a strategic partnership to respond to China's increasing aggression,” Ms Markson said.

“There are mounting concerns that there could be a military conflict in the Pacific.”

Many foreign policy experts are warning China “could invade Taiwan within the next decade”, a war which could “draw in Australia”, according to Ms Markson.

“It is against this backdrop that Australia and the US needs to decide how hard it will continue to press for an independent and truly transparent investigation into the origins of COVID-19,” she said.

“In the dying days of the Trump administration, the US State Department released a document that said workers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology … had fallen sick with coronavirus-like symptoms in the autumn of 2019 – this is months before the pandemic broke out.”

Ms Markson said the document also talks about the “risky gain-of-function bat experiments" the Wuhan Institute of Virology was conducting.

“It also discloses that China has a biological weapons program,” she said.

“The information is crucial that workers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology – the very lab suspected of developing the virus that has caused this pandemic – were sick.”
