Protracker Tutorial - Episode 06 - Sample offset (The 9 command)
Jumping around in the sample with the 9 command.
Additional stuff: To calculate the offset you take the first two hexadecimal numbers from the position from where in the sample you want to start. Therefore FF00 (65280) becomes the maximum offset which is very close to the maximum length for a sample (65535) so half way through that would translate to 80(hex).
You can also open the "EDIT OP" dialogue, open tab 3 and see the actual hex value for the position when marking somewhere in the sample. Just ditch the last two digits and you get your value for the 9 command. (Thanks, Punnik!)
However, my experience is that it's better to just test your way through the sample with different values. The return key is very helpful here.
Tip 1: Be careful when joining samples. Make sure there is room for both samples and a gap in 64kB.
Tip 2: Use Ctrl-X to cut the block you've marked. Just don't use Ctrl-V to paste like you're used to in modern software. This will apply a filter to all your samples and make you sad.
