What really happened in Canada?

For years afterwards the myth inexorably grew: while waving to the crowd on the last lap of the 1991 Canadian GP, with victory seemingly in the bag, Nigel Mansell inadvertently hit the kill switch of his Williams, grinding the car to a halt. In this video - an edit from a talk recently hosted by Peter Windsor at Churchill Engineering College, Cambridge - the former Williams/Ferrari/McLaren engineer, John Sutton, puts the record straight with details never revealed before. Call it a confluence of unforeseen events.
