1930 Ben Selvin Orch. (The Knickerbockers) - Where Can You Be?
The Knickerbockers (Ben Selvin's Orch.) – Where Can You Be? Fox-Trot from Film “Cheer Up And Smile” with Vocal Refrain (by Helen Richards) Columbia 1930 (USA)
ATTENTION: I'm sorry there is a mistake in the intro to this clip: I wrote that vocal is by Helen Rowlands while it's not Helen Rowlands (she has much sweeter voice) but HELEN RICHARDS!!! (a very similar name to Helen Rowlands.... that's why I made a mistake). Helen Richards has a very stylish voice that is reminiscent of Vaughn de Leath to some extent and she recorded several nice sides with Ben Selvin. There's also a clip in my channel of Ben Selvin's a beautiful version of Am I Blue? with vocals by Helen Richards. https://studio.youtube.com/video/cZsZWKgRs-c/edit
Forgive me, You Tubers who have been deceived by my mistake.
NOTE: The Knickerbockers is pseudonym (one of dozens) used in the 1920s by the Ben Selvin’s dance orchestra. His band was extremely prolific during the hot-dance era of the Roaring Twenties and remained active through the early 1930s. Later, Ben Selvin gave up bandleading and became musical director of various record companies, including Majestic, Columbia and Victor. His legacy is estimated up to 20 000 titles – it makes more musical sides (on 78-rpm discs) than any other person in the history of American record industry.
The slideshow presents several women still waiting for their Mr. Wonderful.
