Google Ads Optimization Score – Does it Even Matter?
What is your campaign’s optimization score? Is it 10%? 50%? Or maybe you’ve done everything Google has said and your optimization score is 100%!
Google defines optimization score as:
an estimate of how well your Google Ads account is set to perform. Optimisation score runs from 0% to 100%, with 100% meaning that your account can perform at its full potential.
If you cannot tell, I have a problem with that definition and the implications it has on inexperienced advertisers.
But this score also has an impact on very experienced advertisers who run PPC agencies, because by June of this year, the score is tied into achieving Google partner status. PPC agencies will need an optimization score of at least 70% across their accounts to achieve partner status.
This shows how much emphasis Google is putting on this score. In this video we are going to break down, what the score is, how it works and whether or not you should take the recommendations into consideration.
What is optimization score?
A percentage score out of 100 based on your use of functionality and structure of campaign setup. For example these factors can positively affect your score
Using a smart bidding strategy
Use of the partner network
Adding new suggested keywords
Making use of ad extensions
Use of responsive search ads
Many of these recommendations sound good and many could have a positive impact on your campaign, until they don’t.
Let’s take a look at 3 common optimization score factors I have seen in accounts I manage that could have the biggest impact on increasing the score
