Exploring the post apocalyptic streets of the Clune Park Estate.

This high density housing estate was a bustling community in the 1920s, 100 years on and its deserted and dilapidated, a center for crime and violence.

A total of 430 flats sit dormant within the squalid 4 storey blocks.
We make our way past smashed windows, burnt out rooms, torn down walls and the remnants of former residents belongings sprawled across the floors.
Just 20 people still reside here on the estate, despite being warned the flats are no longer safe for human habitation, the cheap rent prices mean that this ghost town, likened to Ukraines Chernobyl, is not all bad for some.

The Victorian School was built in 1887 and closed in 2008, it saw 121 years of life before being left to decay.
Its once grand front, with roundels of Queen Victoria & Prince Albert, now completely overgrown and forgotten.
The building was eventually condemned unsuitable for the 21st century which lead to its closure.

Directly beside the school sits a beautiful Gothic style church, built in 1905 and closed in 1997, functioning for 110 years before becoming another victim of this deprived area.

These lonely streets are no longer somewhere that children can play, or congregations can gather.

Those who lived here, worked here, went to school here or got married here, they will all see this place for what is was, not what it is now and for those people this is a truly sad ending to its story.

These are the last years of the Clunes Park Estate, plans to demolish and redevelop this area are in action, and seeing the state it’s in today, it’s for the best.

Witnessing such a post apocalyptic scene gives you an idea of life after people, how quickly our structures begin to crumble, and after a short while, it’ll be like we were never even here.
