The Real Chernobyl

Following the success of the Sky Atlantic drama series, this special documentary heads to Ukraine to meet some of the people involved in dealing with the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in 1986.

Writer Craig Mazin said he wanted to bring "the untold true story" of Chernobyl to the world, dramatising the events surrounding what happened that night, and how the Soviet government and people responded.

The series has been praised in the West not just by viewers and TV critics, but by experts too. As the show came to its conclusion, Sky News spoke to a nuclear scientist and a journalist born and raised in the Soviet Union – you can read their thoughts here: http://po.st/3FV1TA.

But what of those who lived through it? The men who worked at the plant, the firefighters, the divers, the pilots, the families evacuated from Pripyat, now a ghost town.
