Virtual Guest Lecture with Designer Michael Bierut

Designer Michael Bierut of Pentagram delivered a virtual guest lecture to Kent State students and alumni of the School of Visual Communication Design on April 1, 2021.

Born in Cleveland, Michael Bierut has worked as a graphic designer for over four decades. His first job after graduating from the University of Cincinnati was for Massimo Vignelli where he worked for 10 years. He then became a partner in the New York office of the international design consultancy Pentagram, where he just celebrated his 30th anniversary.

His work includes brand identity, book design, packaging, and environmental graphics, and his clients at Pentagram have included The New York Times, Saks Fifth Avenue, The Robin Hood Foundation, MIT Media Lab, Mastercard, Slack, the New York Jets, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and Verizon. As a volunteer to Hillary Clinton’s communications team, he designed the H logo that was ubiquitous throughout her 2016 presidential campaign.
