How migrants sneak into Britain from Calais

The Telegraph traces the route taken by migrants who make the risky journey from camps in Calais across the channel to Britain, hidden in the back of lorries

The Telegraph has filmed migrants trying to force their way into lorries queuing outside the port of Calais in France to board ferries for England.

Calais has received a huge influx of migrants in the past six months as Eritreans, Sudanese, Afghans and others have converged on Calais to attempt to cross to Britain.

The authorities estimate that about 1,500 migrants are now living rough in woods and wasteland around Calais or squatting in disused buildings in the city.

Police say they cannot cope with the migrants and are demanding more resources.

Britain is giving £12 million to help fund efforts to keep order. The French authorities arrested more than 5,000 migrants at the Italian border in the first six months of this year, most of whom were intending to try to reach Britain.
