A youth was killed following a police encounter in Bilauti village of Shahpur on Wednesday morning. According to the police, the youth was mentally unstable and had opened fire on a police team, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defense.

The youth sustained bullet injuries to his leg and thigh during the exchange of fire. He was initially taken to Ara Sadar Hospital and later referred to Patna for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in Patna.

The incident is reportedly linked to a video that went viral on social media on Tuesday, showing the youth brandishing a pistol in front of police personnel.

Police said that a team had arrived at the youth’s residence on Wednesday morning to recover the weapon. During the operation, the accused allegedly started a Facebook Live broadcast and opened fire on the police officers. To bring the situation under control, the police responded with gunfire, injuring the youth, identified as Bharat Tiwari.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
