Hands-on Lab - How to Copy AMI between AWS regions

In today's session, we will perform a demonstration on Copy AMI operation

First thing first , What is an AMI ?
An AMI is a template that contains the software configuration (operating system, application server, and applications) required to launch your instance. You can select an AMI provided by AWS, our user community, or the AWS Marketplace; or you can select one of your own AMIs.
During the COPY AMI process, the source ec2 instance is unaffected.
The process creates a snapshots of volumes on the source ec2 instance.

Usecase:
Consider a scenario where we need to create a copy of ec2 instance in a region A to a destination region B. How we can perform this in most simplistic way?
We can leverage copy AMI option to do this by following way -

a. First of all create an image (AMI) of the desired ec2 instance at source region.

b. Copy the newly created AMI to the destination region.

c. Switch to the destination region, validate the copied AMI is available

d. Launch the new ec2 instance using the copied AMI

Please ensure to deregister the AMI and delete the associated snapshots once you have performed the demonstration.
