VOICE RECOGNITION:Setup and Commands

To enhance hands-free driving, your Kia responds to various voice commands. This allows you to access various functions without using the screen or buttons.

In order to operate Voice Recognition, your smartphone needs to be connected via Bluetooth Wireless Technology.
You can also use voice recognition when your smartphone is connected via phone projection.

Operation of Voice Recognition may vary depending on the smartphone that is paired with your Kia.
Here’s how to use voice commands:
Press the VOICE RECOGNITION or TALK button on the steering wheel to access features on phone projection…
Press and hold the TALK button to make a call…
[Then say a command after you hear the beep.]
The recognized command will appear on the screen and the system will perform the corresponding function.
Here’s an example:
When you hear the beep, say a command, like: “Call Lisa Smith.”
[SYSTEM SAYS: “Calling Lisa Smith.”]
The recognized command will appear at the top of the audio system screen and the corresponding function will be performed.

You can also say things like “Call work” …
Call someone’s name …
Dial a number …
Send a message …
Change to a different Bluetooth device …
Or find a Point of Interest.
You can even search a category, like “Find gas stations,” or frequently visited destinations.
You can even view traffic information.

To end VOICE RECOGNITION, say, “Exit” …
Press “Exit” on the voice recognition screen …
Or press and hold the Voice Recognition button.

Here’s some tips to improve your experience using Voice Recognition:

While the microphone filters out much of the ambient noise around you, to be sure it hears your commands, close the doors, windows and sunroof and keep background noise to a minimum before speaking your command.

Also, speak in a natural tone …
Speak without long pauses between words …
Clear, consise pronunciations are helpful …
Use full names …
And when creating your contact list on your phone, never use special characters.

On your phone’s Contacts List, use full names – both the first and last names…
Avoid using characters, like “at” or an ampersand…
Also, avoid acronyms…
And spell out words completely.
