Antonio Vivaldi – “Autumn” from The Four Seasons ❘ Violin Concerto in F Major Allegro

They say every season has its own temperament.
Spring’s a dreamer, summer’s a rascal, winter’s a grumpy old man.
And autumn? Well, autumn’s like an old friend — the kind you sit beside at sunset without saying a word.

One day, a red-haired gentleman by the name of Antonio Vivaldi decided to capture that old friend in music.

Now, this all happened in Venice — a city where even the shadows seem to hum arias.
Vivaldi wasn’t the kind of man to sit around twiddling his thumbs.
By morning, he taught young ladies how to tame the violin.
By afternoon, he composed.
By evening, he conducted.
And at night — well, chances are he did all three at once.

But at some point, he got it into his head that music ought to do more than just sound nice — it ought to breathe, to rustle like leaves, to chase dogs through the woods.

So he wrote The Four Seasons.
And “Autumn”? That’s the most human of them all.

It begins like a country fair — with wine flowing freely and feet that just can’t keep still.
Then comes the nap — deep and satisfying, like after a good meal.
And finally, the hunt: galloping hooves, barking dogs, and leaves fluttering down like notes from a fiddle.

They say Vivaldi added little poems to each concerto, to help folks understand what they were hearing.
But I reckon he knew that the right kind of listener would catch the story anyhow.
Because if you listen closely to Autumn, you don’t just hear a violin — you hear the rustle of life itself.
