The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi, a Deemed to be University under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, has officially released the Ph.D. Admission Notification for the Academic Year 2025–26. IIMC invites online applications from eligible candidates for Full-Time and Part-Time Ph.D. programmes in the broad areas of Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, and allied disciplines.
The online application process starts on 01 January 2026 and the last date to apply is 30 January 2026. The Ph.D. programme will commence from 01 April 2026, and all selected scholars are required to attend mandatory coursework at the IIMC campus, New Delhi (Delhi/NCR).
For Full-Time Ph.D., candidates must have qualified UGC-NET in Mass Communication & Journalism. NET-qualified candidates are directly shortlisted for the interview, and no entrance test is conducted for full-time applicants. For Part-Time Ph.D., candidates without NET qualification must appear in an offline entrance test conducted at IIMC, Delhi, followed by an interview. NET-qualified part-time candidates are exempted from the entrance test.
A total of 22 seats (Maximum) are available for the 2025–26 session, including 18 Full-Time seats and 4 Part-Time seats, with reservations applicable as per Government of India norms. Additionally, up to 10% supernumerary seats are available for International scholars. Research areas fall under Mass Communication, Journalism, Media & Communication Studies, Advertising, Public Relations, Digital Media, Media Ethics, Media Laws, Development Communication, and allied interdisciplinary domains.
The application fee is ₹2,500 for General category and ₹1,500 for OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PwD candidates, payable online. International applicants are required to pay USD 100. The total Ph.D. programme fee is approximately ₹87,000 (for both Full-Time and Part-Time scholars), excluding semester-wise variations. IIMC does not offer institutional fellowships, however candidates with UGC-JRF will receive fellowship as per UGC norms, and applicants with external fellowships (ICSSR or similar) are encouraged to apply.
Applicants must apply online only and upload required documents including academic certificates, UGC-NET scorecard, Statement of Purpose (500 words), and a Research Proposal (2000 words).
