Voice and Choice: Integral for PBL & Student-Centered Learning

When students have a seat at the table, their engagement skyrockets. In this video, we explore the essential PBL element of Student Voice and Choice.

Drawing on research from Hanover Research and the Buck Institute for Education (ASCD), we discuss how giving learners autonomy in their learning journey enhances both academic performance and intrinsic motivation. We’ll look at how voice and choice play out in real-world challenges—from formulating unique inquiry questions to choosing the final artifact that best solves a problem. By allowing students to take initiative and reflect on their decisions, we move away from standardized instruction and toward a truly personalized, empowering learning experience.
