Lundi the Great Aunt of the Jabulani Herd

Meet the next lady in the Jabulani herd, precious Lundi, with her kind motherly touch, calm nature and recognisable ears!

Lundi’s lesson ~ be a great friend and supporter 💕

Lundi has been shining lately as she steps into her role as an adoptive mother for Khanyisa. She has been a vital part of this integration and we are so grateful for her presence in the herd, helping Tokwe with motherly duties.

Born in approximately 1989, Lundi is one of the original elephants that were rescued from Zimbabwe. During the turmoil of the situation there, she bonded with Tokwe, and the two have remained inseparable ever since.

Personality:
As you have seen, Lundi is very loving and always keeps an eye on all of the youngsters when out foraging. Her approach is calm, but strict if any of them cross the line. If there is mud to wallow in, Lundi is the first ellie in.

Mambo, her ten-year-old son, has been a handful growing up, but Lundi is very attached to him. Mambo is becoming a young bull and is increasingly independent and doesn’t depend on his mother anymore. But Lundi loves her boy and was especially very happy to have him back after he recently went walkabout with the wild elephants.

With little Khanyisa, when Lundi and her initially began meeting, Lundi didn’t want to leave the calf’s side, but she soon learned that she was just visiting the baby periodically for now. Still, she is always very keen to spend time with her Khanyisa.

Physical Traits:
Lundi is one of the easiest elephants in the herd to identify, due to the tears in her right ear that have been there since before she came to us. She is of medium height and has fairly short tusks.
