Exploring BRASOV | My Favourite ROMANIAN City!

Continuing my Romanian Road Trip I take a walking tour around Brasov, a place that turned out to be my favourite Romanian city. I visit Tampa Mountain and the churches & towers in the old city.

A day in Brasov Romania exploring the beautiful old town, the mediaeval Black Tower and taking a city tour through its history and culture. Brasov truly is one of the hidden gems of Romania and a magnificent place to spend either a day or a week.

With the huge Tampa Mountain overlooking it from one side and a series of Saxon built towers and bastions on the other, there's lots to see and do before you even get to the old city of Brasov. Once there though it's fun to just walk around the small mediaeval streets and admire the beautiful buildings and quaint architecture in the Council Square (Piața Sfatului). It was great to see both the White Tower and Black Tower both presenting wonderful views across the city.

A few of the other highlights on the walking tour were the Black Church (Biserica Neagră), a historical city gate (Poarta Ecaterinei) and the narrowest street in Romania Strada Sforii Brasov (Rope Street) that was designed as a thoroughfare for firefighters to quickly reach the Black Church if the worst was to happen.

Brasov is one of the most populous cities in the country where nearly a quarter of a million people live. It seems to be a place quite popular with domestic tourism and there’s no doubt that it’s growing in popularity with travellers coming from abroad - people like me!

If I had my time again I'd schedule a slightly longer visit and stay for at least one night, the central square looked like it was just coming alive as I was leaving.
