Hollywood - Sound Version (1965)

Hollywood, California, United States of America (USA).
Interior of an aircraft. Stewardess chats to passengers. Nice shots of passengers. Pan American aircraft lands at Los Angeles airport. Various shots of sights of Hollywood. Includes Chinatown, hotels, shopping streets, Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood & Vine sign, sidewalk paved with stars ("The Walk of Fame"?) - Audrey Hepburn's star is seen, autographed slabs of concrete outside Grauman's Chinese Cinema - hand prints and footprints. Names include Jeanette MacDonald, Al Jolson, Joan Crawford, Loretta Young, Colleen Moore and Marilyn Monroe.
L/S of the Hollywood Bowl. Beverly Hills houses of the stars seen from a moving car. Freeways ("they make Britain's M1 look like a lazy country lane").
Marineland - spectators and acts. A dog stands on board a surfboard which is pulled through the water. Performing seals do some tricks. Dolphin scoots out of the water on to the deck for a fish. Hoop is set on fire and dolphin jumps through it.
Warner Brothers lot - filming of The Great Race in progress. Stars in scene are Tony Curtis, Natalie Wood and Jack Lemmon. They are acting out a scene where their car is standing on an ice floe buffeted by the waves. Various shots of the scene which is shot in the studio tank - wave making machines are shown.
At a theme park we see a Wild West Town - "Ghost Town" (Knoll's Berry Farm). "This is Hollywood - just as much as the studios" states the narrator (many of the performers are wannabe actors). Various shots of the town, panning for gold, an old fashioned locomotive and an acted gun fight. The shot man is measured for a coffin.
Note: this print is rather scratched. Mute neg has also been transferred. See record for 311.02.
