The Golden Age of Hollywood was that era between the 1920s and 1950s where some of the most influential stars were born and some of the greatest films of the 20th century were made. All of that came crashing down however when the studio system inevitably collapsed under its own weight from complications due to rampant alcoholism and anti-trust laws.

The old actors drank constantly and spent their evenings getting wrecked at lavish parties. A lot of them even drank when they were on set, while they drove, or virtually any other time that they weren't asleep. Although if they could have figured out how to consume the stuff while they were catching Z's they would have probably jumped at the opportunity.
