The Independent Frequency of Resonance | Public Record
In an age when mega-conglomerate Live Nation has its hand in nearly every music event going on, it brings us joy to see a truly independent music festival pop off.
On Friday, April 24th, the second annual Resonance festival took place at the Ice House in downtown Phoenix—with no corporate sponsors weaseling in on the action.
Organized by social worker and DJ Trip Hazard Ash, the 2026 edition of the festival featured a stacked roster, including sets by Jonny Pijamas of psychedelic cumbia band Pijama Piyama, Navajo country band Dirt Rhodes, crushing hardcore by Jade Helm, experimental sounds by Desert Breath and Spiritual Warfare, shoegazey goth rock from Meet the Sun, and much more.
With proceeds benefiting Local First Arizona and sponsorship by Stinkweeds Records and Bud’s Glass Joint, it was a truly community-driven affair. And unlike what happens when a company like Live Nation runs the show, Ash published a full financial breakdown of the event after it went down, detailing just how much money went to bands, DJs, engineering crew and vendors. It also detailed a nearly $9,000 gap left over after the event.
It’s all a reminder that transparency is powerful—and that doing it DIY isn’t cheap. If you want to help cover the gap, Resonance has launched a Crowdfunder page to help make up the difference.
Help Resonance keep things independent—and fun news: anyone who donates $50 will receive a ticket to Resonance 2027.
