As Astrid’s Disco Elysium impressions explain, this is a hard game to pin down: your character is not only suffering a profound hangover, but is basically a walking collection of warring instincts. Some of them helping you in job, others derailing your every step of the way. This is a game where your stats and skills aren’t just words on a menu, but characters who demand to be heard. It’s pretty out there. So be careful during Disco Elysium character creation - you could be making a monster.

This Disco Elysium preview covers the first day of the game, so don’t expect a full Disco Elysium review just yet. Astrid is working on that in the background, but hopefully these impressions tell you what you need to hear. If you are a fan of detective games or general mystery games, there’s certainly lashings of both genres here, although you have to navigate so much more as you try to solve the case.
