Significance of Pavamaana Sooktam
It is in the 9th Mandala of the Rigveda that we find this.
There are four adhyayas and 610 mantras in it.
The phalasthuthi tells us the benefits of this. It goes on to say, what are the significant curses that get eroded if we learn/ recite/hear these mantras .
1. A pregnant lady expecting a child or a lady who has delivered a baby will be blessed with with all the noble qualities.
2. A glass filled with water and sanctified by chanting this mantram and consumed has all the energies absorbs in it and is highly powerful.
3. It eliminates the dosha ( sin) of disrespecting our parents
4. It relieves us from the dosha of killing a cow.
5. It protects us from the dosha of becoming a thief, of even unintentionally taking someone else’s things.
6. It protects us from the dosha of abusing women.
7. It greatly protects anyone who exchanges knowledge and wisdom for money.
8. It relieves us from the dosha of preparing/ consuming the foods that has not been prescribed by the shastras.
9. It protects us from the dosha that we attain of making false promises.
10. It keeps us away from the Brahmmaha hatya dosha. ( cursing and abusing a learned Brahmana )
11. It keeps the dosha of consuming alcohol and forgetting our karma towards family and society.
12. It also protects us from the dosha of eating at all odd untimely hours .
13. It alleviates us from the dosha of even mentally thinking wrong about our Guru and Guru Pathni.
14. It protects us from the dosha of killing small babies.
15. It also protects us from the dosha of illegally acquiring and usurping the land of someone else.
16. Thus doing Parayanam of this even one single time will assure one of the highest noble birth in 7 janmas.
