LOTRO - Angmar ambience - Malenhad & Duvuinen - Lord of the Rings Online

This was a nice break within the usual gloom within the Angmar region. There are some unique sounds here. :)

Western Malenhad (Sindarin for Yellow-place) is an area within Angmar in the southern region. This is the western section of Malenhad, an area that consists of sulfuric marshlands. Throughout the area, steam is pouring out of fumaroles and rising off the hot springs dotting the landscape. There's a large amount of geothermal activity within the swamp likely making for a much more humid and warmer environment than the rest of Angmar. That would also explain the wildlife which consists of bog-lurkers, giant flies, Dread Turtles, and fiery worms. In a damp cave under the foot of the mountains in the north, Gertheryg have set up with their worm pets. Goblins have built huts along the sulfuric ponds in the northwest likely in an attempt to extract some kind of resource, but are also found with their Angmarim allies within the enemy holdings of Bail Boglakh and Bail Róva. In a large pocket amidst the mountains, known as Sálgaitë, a large brood of worms have made their nests.

Between Western and Eastern Malenhad is Rammas Deluon, a border of malicious Watching-stones. Unless having conquered a spirit commanding such a stone, the border is fatal and impossible to pass through. Hence, any member of the Free Peoples is advised to seek out Corunir in Aughaire, who is said to be looking for ways to pass through, before trying to head east.

Eastern Malenhad is an area within Angmar in the south-eastern region. This is the eastern section of Malenhad, which just like its western counterpart is made up mostly of sulfuric marshlands and steam venting fumaroles. Something to distinguish this section of Malenhad, however, is the large sulfur lake, Duvuinen, that it encloses. Similarly to the western section of Malenhad many bog-lurkers, fiery worms, and Dread Turtles are found here, but unlike the west, neekerbreekers and slugs make their home here as well. The bogs border the dark forest of Gorothlad to the east and through the orc encampment of Mor Maudhúl, Imlad Balchorth to the north.

This area is the first adventurers will encounter after summoning the willpower to pass through Rammas Deluon alive after conquering the spirit of a stronger Ancient Watching-stone. Until then the malice of the Watching-stones proves too overpowering and any attempt crossing the line of statues is fatal.

In the south is a Camp Site Fire and hidden further south beyond that is Gabilshathûr, a dwarven outpost that, until recently, managed to stay undiscovered by the forces of Angmar.

Duvuinen is an area within Angmar in the south-eastern region. Surrounded at all sides by Eastern Malenhad lies this sulfuric lake with crystal clear water. Duvuinen is Sindarin for "Beloved Nightfall" which probably refers to the lake gleaming in the late sun-set, at least it did before the shadow of Carn Dûm begun to blanket the lands of Angmar. Most of the lake is no more than a foot deep, though the southern section near the passage to the dwarven, mining outpost of Gabilshathûr is considerably deeper. Some creatures from the surrounding areas lie sunbathing at the shores, mainly fiery worms, neekerbreekers, and slugs, but the waters themselves lie undisturbed. The dwarves from the nearby outpost speak of a massive turtle, Gaeruan who has made her nest in the center of the lake, though sightings of her are rare. (wiki.com)
