Smiths H6 Director Horizon ILS test

This short video is about the Smiths H6 Director Horizon (used in the Vickers VC10 air plane). This test shows the ILS (Instrument Landing System) test. The yellow vertical and horizontal glide slope linea can be moved by applying an AC signal. The ILS part of this instrument is powered with 115 VAC 400 Hz single phase. Each ILS marker input is fed with a 400 Hz AC signal. The marker input voltage is fixed to (approximately) 20 VAC to obtain maximum deflection. The phase shift (in relation to the 400 Hz power input) is there to control the marker positions. For this first test the vertical and horizontal marker input are connected together but they can move independent.

Note: The horizon part of this device is isolated from the ILS part. Both parts require 115VAC 400 Hz single phase power to work. The supplied power can be shared to both parts of the instrument. (I'm preparing a video to show the full control of the instrument. I'm waiting for connector pins so I can wire all the pins for the setup...)

See my webpage article about the H6 Director Horizon for more information: http://polytech.nu/index.php?artikel=340

See http://polytech.nu/article/340/polytech-Smiths_H6-connector_pinout.pdf for the full pinout information of this H6 horizon. Here is the main information for connecting the instrument:

X-k of DH1: panel illumination 5V
h(+)-g(-) of DH1: '+' error flag 28 VDC
M(+)-N(-) of DH2: horizon error flag 28 VDC

A(line)-W(neutral) of DH1: power input for the horizon part 115 VAC 400Hz
LMe of DH1: horizon roll synchro (resolver) position input 26 VAC 400 Hz (phase shift in relation to the power input phase results in roll change)
JHc of DH1: horizon pitch synchro (resolver) position input 26 VAC 400 Hz (phase shift in relation to the power input phase results in pitch change)

P(line)-R(neutral) of DH1: power input for the ILS part 115 VAC 400Hz
S(~)-U(return) of DH1: signal input for the vertical ILS marker 20 VAC 400 Hz (phase shift results in marker movement)
T(~)-U(return) of DH1: signal input for the horizontal ILS marker 20 VAC 400 Hz (phase shift results in marker movement)

Michel from Le Labo de Michel inspired me to experiment with this instrument. Michel published a video of the H6 instrument here: https://youtu.be/ZncFKGNG68E Michel did the hard work reverse engineering the main part as seen in the video. My modest contribution is to add more pieces of information to 'the puzzle'. ;-) My contribution could not be made without Michel's information!
