Global National: July 6, 2022 | End Assembly of First Nation’s “political squabbling,” youth say
On tonight’s episode of Global National: Youth at the Assembly of First Nations' annual general meeting in Vancouver are demanding the focus shift from internal politics to critical issues, such as the federal government's historic $20 billion final settlement to compensate Indigenous families harmed by the child welfare system. But as Neetu Garcha reports, tensions remain as the organization struggles to move past its leadership crisis.
In Canadian politics, Patrick Brown was seen as one of the front runners of Canada’s Conservative party, but the federal Conservatives have now disqualified Brown from the party's leadership race. Abigail Bimman explains why, how Brown is fighting back and whom he's blaming.
Across the pond, dozens of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's ministers and aides have now announced their resignations in response to his handling of sexual assault allegations against Chris Pincher, his now-former deputy chief whip. As Crystal Goomansingh explains, Johnson remains defiant in the face of growing calls for his resignation.
Back in the U.S., seven people were killed in the shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park, Ill., including Kevin and Irina McCarthy. Their 2-year-old son, Aiden, is now an orphan. Jackson Proskow reports on how the toddler was found after the shooting, as police say the prime suspect has confessed to the attack, and was plotting another one.
As visits to Canadian emergency rooms rise again, patients, including children, are facing longer waits. Jamie Mauracher explains what's behind the spike and how pediatricians are worried this will push hospitals further to the brink.
Finally, videos posted online showed the shocking moment a construction worker was seen dangling from a crane in downtown Toronto. The videos, which began circulating on social media Tuesday, showed a worker hanging from a crane below a load as people in the surrounding area look on. Mike Drolet reports.
