'Orixás: Personal Tales on Portraiture', a solo exhibition by São Paulo, Brazil-based artist Gustavo Nazareno invites viewers into a world steeped in mysticism with a reverence for ancestry and the supernatural. Curated by Samuele Visentin, this exhibition marks the beginning of Nazareno's exclusive representation with Opera Gallery. Drawing inspiration from Afro-Latin culture and religions–particularly the Brazilian Candomblé religion and its pantheon of Orixás deities–the 16 oil paintings and 25 charcoal drawings in this exhibition blur the lines between the physical and spiritual worlds and convey diverse aesthetic references–ranging from haute couture fashion to religious iconography.
