Liszt Petrarch Sonnet 123 Kitain Rec 1936.

Anatole Kitain (1903-1980 Russia) was a classmate of Vladimir Horowitz at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire as pupils of Sergei Tarnowsky. Kitain also became one of Felix Blumenfeld's select private pupils along with Horowitz and Barere. According to Byron Crimp, Kitain was more precocious than Horowitz. Crimp writes," Indeed,Horowitz had no wunderkind leaning whereas Kitain made many acclaimed prodigy appearances, none more famously than a performance of Beethoven's first concerto when he was nine years old."
This is the premiere recording of the Liszt Petrarch Sonnet 123. (Recorded 1936). It is my favorite recording of the work ,despite a few time limitations brought about by the 78 rpm recording process. Katain was also the first pianist to record the Liszt Petrarch Sonnet 47 and the Vallee d'Obermann. Katian was a prize- winner of the first Franz Liszt Competition held in Budapest in 1933.
