The PDCA cycle was developed in the 1930s by Walter Shewhart, physicist at Bell Telephone, the founder of statistical quality control. PDCA was introduced in the 1950s in Japan by W. Edwards Deming; there it is known as the Deming cycle. It is also called Plan-Do-Study-Action (PDSA). The 4 parts of the PDCA (or PDSA) mean the following:
