Side Trip: A Great Old Gardner Diesel
Annual Spring startup of our Gardner 6LW Diesel, what a treat! Thanks Sam for letting us 'keep an eye on it' for you. You can still find vessels with these legendary machines operating and for sale. I'd love to know how many hours Radiant Star has on her 8LXB.
As you all know we LOVE old boat engines around here at SVC and wanted to show off our beautiful relic of an engine or rather our Marine Tech Center “Artwork”. This antique Gardner 6LW Diesel was used back in the day in many fishing boats in the early 30’s & 40’s (World War II Era). These British built diesel engines were originally constructed for marine use. Thanks to some new parts and help from a few of our students here at SVC we got this old girl up and running!
Sam Devlin, owner of Devlin Boat Co, rescued this beaut of engine from an old boat that was about to be crushed. Thanks Sam! Make sure to give her a visit the next time you come by the Marine Tech Center, she’ll be hanging out in our lobby. It you would like us to fire her up for you make sure to call Mike or Matt first to arrange a visit.
