Wood and Resin Wall Art (Walnut) Relaxation video

In this wood working project I took a piece of English Walnut from an old stump and created some wood and resin wall art. The Walnut was very rotten and decayed. After attempting to seal it with several coats of varnish I made a mould and poured various thin layers of resin, containing many different coloured mica powders, to simulate a lava flow under water. I then added a further clear layer of epoxy. At this point I encountered some problems with the resin overheating as it cured. A happy accident? - this overheating actually caused small plumes of air bubbles and some tube like structures within the resin. This was perfect for a lava flow under water and the various plumes and swirls looked like lava super heating water into steam. I then added a frame made from Iroko with an Ash inlay. I added a light box to the rear which can be used to subtly illuminate the lava flow utilising a loop of LED lights. These are powered by a battery pack and can be remotely controlled. Hope you enjoyed this one and thanks for watching!
