This New Battery Will Change EVERYTHING for Tesla

The new model S Plaid and Long Range have different battery weights and sizes compared to the previous versions of the Model S Long Range and Performance. The new all-new lithium-ion 12-volt auxiliary battery replaces the conventional lead-acid battery that has been considered the “standard” top-of-the-line model for a long time. The rationale behind the shift to lithium-ion 12V batteries is to boost the life cycle of this low-voltage cell to improve convenience and increase lifespan for owners. This new, smaller, more compact 12V li-ion battery actually packs a ton of advantages over the previously used lead-acid 12V batteries. While weight and size are obvious improvements, one of the biggest advantages is an increased lifespan. The previous standard lead-acid battery died far too frequently and was sometimes replaced up to 3 times per year by some Tesla owners. It makes sense for Tesla to use Lithium-ion batteries considering the overwhelming amount of strain that is put on battery cells when running an electric vehicle. In gas-powered and combustion engine vehicles, the lead-acid battery is a suitable choice because it is only used for starting engines with high currents and performing minor electrical tasks such as firing in gasoline engines, powering lights, and other car gadgets. In EVs, the 12V batteries could handle several tasks, thus lessening the battery life. For this case, Lithium-ion batteries could be suitable for electric vehicle applications.
