- 5 stops of stabilization - older lens had 3 stops
- stabilization system is quieter
- stabilization has 3 modes - older lens had 2
- minimum focus is 1m instead of 1.2m (3.3ft vs 3.9ft)
- new lens coating and lens elements to minimize ghosting and flaring
- circular 9 blade aperture - improves bokeh
