A speeding Subaru SUV crashed into a truck on a Caltrans project on the southbound 405 Freeway in Irvine on Thursday night, January 30, 2026. The SUV veered into closed lanes near MacArthur Boulevard, resulting in the death of its passenger. The 26-year-old Norwalk man driving the Subaru was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI). The Caltrans worker operating the project truck sustained minor injuries in the two-vehicle collision. California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the fatal incident.
