The woman who fell to her death aboard a Carnival cruise ship near Catalina Island earlier this week has been identified as 24-year-old Briana Miller, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office. The FBI continued to investigate how Miller fell from a stateroom balcony while the ship was in waters off Catalina. FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said agents were notified of the fall about 5 a.m. on Monday, April 27, and reached the vessel near Catalina around 8 a.m. A Carnival spokesperson confirmed the death and said Miller landed on a deck below after the fall. The female guest was traveling with family, who alerted the ship’s crew to the incident, according to Carnival. Miller’s city of residence was not disclosed. No further details about the circumstances or cause of death were provided in the report. The investigation is ongoing. Authorities did not release additional information about possible safety lapses.
