White Island volcano survivor shares photo of her injuries

Australian woman Stephanie Browitt has shared an update on her recovery more than six months since surviving the White Island volcano eruption.

The 23-year-old posted a photo of her hands after doctors were forced to amputate her fingers following the tragedy.

“When I found out my fingers had to go, I wasn’t that upset. I think I was grateful that I still had my hands because when the eruption happened, I remember seeing my hands and realising how bad they were,” she said.

Ms Browitt thanked surgeons at the Alfred hospital for taking such good care of her, saying she looked forward to seeing more progress everyday.
