NS 3423 On The B&P

On a rather warm February afternoon, a single-unit H-76 in the form of SD40-2 3423 (built in Nov. 1979) makes its way up the Portland Secondary, bound for Portland PA. The crew ran to the Portland Wye as they could spin their engine around, preventing them from having to run LHF or "Long Hood Forward" on the return trip. With 3423 facing the right direction now, H-76 makes a stop in Johnsonville at the FS Growmark business to pick up an emptied Potash fertilizer car. After the pickup, the crew continues to Martins Creek Yard where they would collect the rest of their train and head for Allentown.

*As you will also see in future videos, crews must now proceed with caution when corssing the large Route 512 road crossing in Bangor. This is because a few nights prior, a heavy storm caused the electronics to malfunction, and the MOW crews weren't sure if the problem was corrected. Since then, a "Stop and Protect" has been issued at the crossing until further notice.
