Madrid's Most Beloved Square PLAZA MAYOR | Epi: 16 | Irem Ozel

Plaza Mayor is a huge enclosed plaza that features restaurants, tours, and a gazillion shops selling memorabilia and most everything else. The architecture alone is worth the visit, classical and historic. It is a busy place with many places to eat around. Lots of people in costumes trying to get the tourists attention. They will take pictures with you for money so beware. Just at walking distance from plaza mayor is the famous puerta del sol square. There are three statues at Puerto del Sol, the most interesting being El Oso y El Madroño (the bear and the strawberry tree) located near the Metro station on the east side of the square. The monument, which represents the city symbol of Madrid, was sculpted by Antonio Navarro Santafe and placed here in 1967. It is a 4 meter tall bronze statue of a bear standing up against the tree. The statue is a famous picture spot. So you dont miss one with it too.
