Barcelona, the city is known for hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics as well as world-class conferences and expositions and also many international sport tournaments. Barcelona is a major cultural, economic, and financial center in southwestern Europe, as well as the main biotech hub in Spain.
The Castell de Montjuïc (Castle of Montjuic) is a historical building that was built as a military camp in 1640. The structure was constructed at the top of Montjuïc hill. Castell de Montjuïc can be reached by the Funicular de Montjuïc and the Montjuïc Cable Car.
You will enjoy the journey up the mountain as you take in unobstructed panoramic views of Barcelona city. First, you will need to ride the Funicular de Montjuïc from Paral.lel metro. The funicular will then stop at Avenida Miramar. Then from there, you will ride the Telefèric de Montjuïc cable car taking you up Montjuïc mountain and dropping you at Castell de Montjuïc.
When you feel like you've hit your Gaudí limit, head to the Picasso Museum (Museu Picasso) for a change of pace. While most people know Pablo Picasso for his distorted portraits, this museum displays his work on a timeline of sorts, allowing you to follow his progression from the more controlled works of his early years to the very whimsical paintings and sculptures from the end of his time. The museum is in the back streets & not the easiest to find being just of a small market square. On the same day, we went to the famous Montjuic castle which failed to impress me much. I would describe it more as a fort than a castle. It occupies a large site that can be walked around and most of the site is accessible by wheelchairs. The site has some impressive relatively modern artillery still in place for additional interest. And gives a good 360 view of the city and the sea. The entry fee is 5 Euros or 9 Euros if you take the guided tour. The castle can be reached by road but better to use the cable car and take in the city sights whilst it travels up the hill over a beautiful park.
