Al Bowers and the Prandtl Wing
In this clip from Fueled By Death Cast, retired NASA chief scientist Al Bowers talks about one of his legacy projects, the Prandtl Wing. This new design of a plane can revolutionize flight by considerably reducing drag and fuel usage. But when Ludwig Prandtl theorized the formula for reduced drag in 1933, he never actually finished the project to completion. Al worked backward from the work Prandtl had done and figured out the way to create the Prandtl Wing, thanks in part to talented interns. The story of Al's journey with the Prandtl wing is fascinating and could one day be a turning point in the history of flying machines.
