Dr June Perkins and the Kids of Botongon, Estancia Live Stream

International Literacy Day is held on 8 September every year and this year I’ll be celebrating with the children of Botongon, Estancia (Philippines) with a live skype-in from accomplished children's poet and author Dr June Perkins from Australia.

June will be reading poetry from Magic Fish Dreaming as well as sharing some personal stories with the children. June and her collaborator (Illustrator Helene Magisson) have kindly given permission for me to print extracts from the book and present to the children as gifts (all free of charge). What a wonderful way to celebrate the value of literacy, education and knowledge!

The children will also be performing songs and stories in their native language, the national language (Filipino) as well as English. I'll also be shouting out some of my supporters who have made everything I do here in the Philippines possible.

As global citizens and human beings with a heart, I hope you will join us in recognising International Day of Literacy and the contribution educating kids makes to ENDING POVERTY EVERYWHERE.
