Where do the anti-trans and anti-abortion movements connect, and what is at stake? This is the disturbing reality of the anti-trans movement and how to fight for trans rights in 2023.

2022 will be remembered as a watershed moment in the struggle for trans rights, characterized by an unprecedented number of anti-trans bills introduced into state legislatures. The American Civil Liberties Union's weekly tracker struggled to keep up with the surge of over 300 proposed bills. These measures targeted trans youth and adults alike, attempting to restrict access to books, medical treatment, and even bathroom usage. As the fight for transgender rights intensified, the Supreme Court was on the brink of overturning Roe vs. Wade, giving states the green light to almost totally ban abortion. This brewing storm of conservative politics threatened both trans rights and women's rights.

Trans individuals, particularly trans women of color, endured a surge in violence. Standing tall amidst these trials is today's guest, Imara Jones. As a prominent trans rights activist and a trans woman herself, she produced the podcast mini-series "The Anti-Trans Hate Machine: A Plot Against Equality". The series scrutinizes the powerful entities and vast funds driving these developments in the anti-trans movement.

Imara Jones is the creator of TransLash Media, which is committed to shifting culture, fostering empathy, and ultimately saving trans lives. Her cross-platform project intertwines journalism and personal storytelling to illuminate the challenges faced by the trans community and further the trans rights movement. She champions the assertion that trans rights are human rights.

Jones's perspectives on the intersection of gender identity and racial justice, and her work to combat disinformation against trans people, landed her a spot in this year’s “Time’s 100 Most Influential People”. Her piece, "Why Black Trans Women are Essential to Our Future", was on the front page of Time Magazine in 2020. She also played a crucial role in the United Nations' first-ever High-Level Meeting on Gender Diversity in 2019.

In this special tribute for LGBTQ+ Pride Month, we explore the contemporary struggle for LGBTQ rights, with a focus on trans rights and gender equality.
