Explosive Vulcanian Eruption and Small Pyroclastic Flow, Sakurajima Volcano, Japan

Sakurajima volcano lies close to the city of Kagoshima in southern Japan. Since 1955, several prolonged phases of explosive activity from the Showa crater have been observed. The video shows a typical explosive eruption associated with a small pyroclastic flow. First, a detailed video is shown where the ejection of a dense jet of material triggering the flow can be seen. The wider angle view shows the same eruption filmed with a second camera to give a better overview.
