Toxic Positivity And How The Toxic Positive Culture Affects You
#toxicpositivity #toxicpositiveculture#adayintime
Toxic positivity refers to the idea of forcing yourself to feel or act happy when you’re really not. It means focusing only on the positives and avoiding or rejecting anything that may trigger negative emotions. It’s the feeling you get when someone says, “Oh, that’s not so bad!” or “that person had it worse!” when all you wanted was someone to listen to you.
By not allowing certain emotions to exist, we risk falling into the trap of denial and repressed feelings, which only makes the problem bigger. If you ignore your negative feelings, you’re also more likely to think others don’t have them, and that can make you appear cruel, or at the very least, less relatable. You might also struggle to have a meaningful relationship since people will find it difficult or painful to connect with you.
So, how do you avoid the trap of toxic positivity when in the age of social media, all your friends and family are constantly sharing posts about being happy, having a positive attitude, or how to be productive all the time?
That’s what we will talk about in this video!
