Hello neighbor, this is Curt with Etrailer, and today we're gonna be taking a look at the Mount-n-Lock ShakeStopper BuddyHitch. And what this essentially is going to provide for you is a second two by two inch hitch receiver that you can add an extra accessory into, whether it be a cargo basket, bike rack, spare tire holder. You know, anything that could go in a two by two inch hitch that's gonna give you clearance with your other receivers, you should be able to carry. It's gonna mount to your 2 1/2 by 2 1/2 half inch cross beam and it's gonna mount using three bolts. You're gonna need a 3/4-inch wrench as well as a 3/4-inch socket, and there is going to be a torque spec to that. So pay very close attention to your instructions and make sure you get those bolts torqued down properly to make sure that this is secure.
Now, when we got ours mounted, there is some skirting up underneath this fifth wheel. Wasn't giving us enough clearance to drop the bolts downward, so we ran them upward and that's perfectly fine. You just wanna make sure you get that torque spec correct when you do so. Now, you may have noticed that there are no loops for your safety chains on this hitch, and that is because that this is intended for hitch accessories only, not for towing. If you need to tow something behind your RV, you're gonna want to use your actual original hitch receiver.
This is gonna be strictly for accessories. So you're really talking about tongue weight. And when you look in the instructions, you're gonna see a tongue weight capacity. It's kind of confusing. It says 500 pounds by the foot.
What that actually means is it depends on where your load is located as far as distance from the cross beam of your hitch in order to determine that load. So for instance, this has 500 pounds by the foot. I think it's more accurate to measure it in inches. So if you take 500, multiply it by 12, you'll get 6,000. Then, if you measure from the cross beam to the center of where your load is, not the front of your basket or the back of your basket or whatever it may be, but the center of the load, let's say you get 30 inches there.
Divide 30 into 6,000, you get 200. That is going to be your tongue weight capacity. So it really depends on where your load is centered and how far away that is from that cross beam. And when you do use a hitch accessory in here, these bolts here or going to provide some compression from the top of the hitch receiver downward, and that's gonna get rid of any of the slop that you may have in here. Ends up being a pretty good anti-rattle device and it's just gonna keep things sturdy back there for you as you're carrying it behind your RV. Now, when it comes to hitch locations, they're really vastly different on every camper. Some of 'em are really close up to the edge, some of them are a bit deeper back. So if you wanna figure out if you've got the clearance to carry that extra accessory, if you're going from your cross beam to the edge right here, you're at 7 3/4 inches to the opening of your hitch right here. And the hitch pin hole is going to be 3 1/2 inches from the edge of that receiver as well. So you can use that to kind of determine whether this is gonna be the right secondary hitch for you. But if after watching this video you've still got some questions about this, go ahead and drop them in the comments below. We would love to answer those for you. It just helps you and other neighbors just like you to make the best decision for yourself. Once again, this is Curt with etrailer. Thanks for stopping by.
