You know how there’s that “certain sound” heard almost every time you listen to a really well appointed blues solo. It’s a sophisticated blues sound that takes the guitar solo one step further with a hint of jazz.
While very cool, this sound can also be rather problematic when it comes to duplicating the exact scale tones used to create a blues solo which will sound similar.
The fact of the matter is this type of blues solo does not use just one scale. Instead, it actually blends two Pentatonic scales together.
In this lesson, I’m going to show you how this sound is applied using two licks.
These licks offset the two Pentatonic scales so you end up with a group of notes that produce this sophisticated blues effect.
To achieve this blues sound you will need to mix two scales together, and they are the Major Blues Pentatonic (with the minor 3rd) and the Blues Scale (Minor Pentatonic with the diminished 5th).
The selective use of tones from both of these Pentatonic scales (major and minor), produces a blues sound that is truly unique. In fact, it is a blues sound which is equipped to push the listener into new directions that musically cross the line from blues over to jazz.
