What would you say if I told you there were only 2 notes that you need to play in order to get that legendary Jimi Hendrix and ZZ Top riff & solo sound?

In this lesson, I am going to show you how to use two note intervals that work to establish the bare minimum of how players like Hendrix (and many other guitar greats) get their signature sound. Not only are these 2-note interval ideas great for building riffs & solos but they also help compound into bigger harmony such as triads.

Some teachers might tell you that you need to learn a lot of famous songs in order to build a connection to this style of playing. I disagree. I think anyone should be able to pick up on this sound by learning some simple neck theory and one or two guitar licks that target this sound through phrasing examples.

Two note dyad chords (often called “double-stops”) are great for building a fatter line from a single guitar part. This 2-note sound functions by hitting two notes that are harmonized within a key signature, (“diatonic” harmonized lines).

The technical skill is minimal and works in many musical situations, including; solos, rhythm riffs, live playing and studio recording
