Yanmar Engine Fix, Part 1
SWT Yanmar Engine Fix Part 1
In this episode, we disassemble our Yanmar 3GM30F Marine Engine and show most of the steps involved in taking it apart and removing most of the engine systems. We had a failing Gear Case cover gasket and the only way to get to it to replace it is to remove most of the systems on the outside of the engine. We remove the alternator, water pump, fuel filter, low pressure and high pressure fuel lines, the entire heat exchanger, the crankshaft flywheel and the high pressure engine driven fuel pump. All of this is required in order to remove the Gear Case cover. Once we got that deep into our engine we were able to see and inspect the timing gears and the oil pump and everything all looks perfect.
In the second episode, Part 2 we will put it all back together again. We will show the cleaning and refurbishing of the heat exchanger, replacing the gear case gasket, steps to put everything back together, and filling fluids and bleeding air out of the fuel lines to get the engine running again.
I have tried to show the steps involved and offer any tips that I came across while doing our engine work. This entire project cost us approximately $300 including all new gaskets, hoses and belts. I highly recommend getting the Seloc Yanmar Engine Repair Manual for your engine as the steps involved are very thoroughly covered in that book and will answer any questions you probably have. I have always considered engine work my weak point of expertise. Everything we did here worked and got us back to an engine that works perfectly and most importantly our oil leak is fixed!
If you want to see a Yanmar 3GM30F engine get torn down and rebuilt, take a look at our videos and hopefully you will see us go through the steps you will encounter when fixing your engine.
