Glider Flies Into Dust Devil - Climbs Faster than Airplane!
Watch as a glider circles inside of a dust devil while climbing at 1,500 feet per minute up to 18,000 feet! Most single engine airplanes would struggle to even climb 200 - 300 fpm at this high altitude. Gliders use rising columns of air to gain altitude so they can then glide many hundreds of miles in a single flight. This glider is an ASW27 that took off from Nephi, Utah and is circling inside of the top of a dust devil near Wayne Wonderland airport in Utah. Most climb rates for a glider during the summer months are between 400 - 600 fpm but here is an example of one of the stronger thermals where the glider can catch an express elevator ride up to the start of Class A airspace. Thanks for watching and commenting! Bruno - B4
