Brad Panovich '99% sure' tornado touched down in Charlotte, NC | Weather Impact Alert

Strong thunderstorms that pushed over the Carolinas on Monday knocked down trees and caused damage in the Charlotte area.

Weather Impact Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich received reports of damage on Atando Avenue in northeast Charlotte. Panovich said based on damage reports he's seen, there's a high likelihood of a tornado during Monday's storms. The National Weather Service said it will send a crew to the area to survey damage and determine if it was a tornado or straight-line winds.

"I would tell you with almost 99% certainty that we had a tornado touch down in this area," Panovich said. "Tops of trees are kind of sheared off, it looks like tornado damage. I would tell you that this is probably EF-0 tornado damage, maybe slightly EF-1 damage."
