A Gentleman’s Mask, written as track 6 for my Spring Heeled Jack album, is inspired by the masks serial killers and murderers wear.

Since we don’t know with certainty who Jack the Ripper was or what class of society he came from…I let my imagination roam. Most likely he was not well to do or from the upper echelon yet the possibility is there. Even if he was from a lower class (monetary wise), he still had to wear a mask to conceal what lurked beneath. He had to blend in with the general public when working, out with family members or doing any normal day to day activities.

So this song is composed while thinking of those stories we hear from people who knew them, the killers after they are caught. Many times friends and family say “they” weren’t like that at home or in public. So this song is created coming from the perspective of someone who knew Jack, and if he had ever been caught, saying he was a different man when he was with them.
